Spencer is looking for his forever home. His owner passed away in mid July so I took him in. He is a high energy Whippet Black lab/ Shepherd cross, 1 1/2 year old unfixed male. He’s approximately 35-40 lbs. I don’t think he’s had any shots, and he has no ear tattoos. Spencers owner purchased him at 6weeks old as a service dog for his depression and anxiety… But because Spencer was not professional trained for that job, he took on his owners stress and anxiety. He was skin and bones, and he had no love or affection. He had never been around other dogs or children, so I was told he does have issues with that. In the 2 1/2 weeks I’ve had him, he has adapted well with my family and friends, my teenage grandsons and their friends. We are all dog lovers so we have all coddled him and given him an abundance of love and affection and he craves it, as he is quite loving and affectionate himself. He eats well 3 times a day and I’ll be weaning him to twice a day now that he has gained weight and has a shiny healthy coat. His teeth are white again, and no longer black. We have not had him around other dogs as he does not do well on a leash just yet. Because all my neighbors have dogs that bark at him, it is still an issue. He is very smart, with a black pallet and he listens well, so he is still very trainable. We have a calm home and with consistency he will sit and lay down and come. But when he was anxious because of dogs barking, the traffic, planes and choppers and just people walking by.. he frantically runs back and forth. He’s much better with all of those triggers when calm, but if allowed to run frantically he zones into that and he doesn’t even hear you. I’ve taught him to look up at watch the planes and choppers, just watch the people and dogs walking by.. and in a calm state he doesn’t bark at them. Spencer is fully house trained and does not go on the furniture, unless he is putting his paws up on my high bed to wake me up. Sadly we are not Spencers forever home. We just lost our 9 year old boy and with that devastation we are not ready for another just yet.
